Poem

Today

Michael Beck

I cannot see the future, I can’t undo the past
I only own this moment to do those deeds that last
Today, I have a treasure, a gift from God above
To spend upon my pleasure, or lavish Him with love
The past is now behind me, the future is not mine
I only have the present, will I redeem the time?
It does no use to wallow, in sorrow or regret
Nor wonder of tomorrow, until I start to fret
Right now I’m called to something, it’s now within my hand
Put there by heaven’s Master, to further here His plan
One day I’ll stand before Him, for talents to account
Reward I find in that day, today must start to mount
