Are we surprised that every day
The thoughts of each are to their way
Do we suppose that we should be
High on their list – priority
All seek their own, this still is true
And those like Christ are very few
Who think not only on their things
But look without and enter in
To other’s issues and concerns
Who care enough and wish to learn
How they can help and they can bless
Make gladness grow and sorrows less
From men our portion may be small
They may not think of us at all
Our bosom friends may turn away
And not give us the time of day
But let us look away from men
And only on our Lord depend
Receiving from Him all we need
A portion that is large indeed
Much greater than all flesh can give
A Bread by which we truly live
Enough to keep us fat, not gaunt
In Shepherd’s care, we shall not want
