Not because the sun I see is my heart warmed today
Not because excitement looms and I am off to play
Not because I feel so good or like the way I look
Not because my life is charmed as in a storybook
Not because my bank account is bursting at the seams
Not because I’ve entered in to all my fondest dreams
Not because the world’s all right and nothing’s in my way
Not because I feel no pain and skies are never gray
This alone is why I sing and why I can’t be sad
Above I have a Friend indeed, His smile has made me glad
Though no embrace from earth I find, life here would make me cold
My God still rises over me, ’tis well within my soul
