Poem

Like Shepherd, Like Sheep

Michael Beck

The more this world will hate my Lord, the more I will adore Him
The more they mock His holy Name, the more I will live for Him
His glory is the prize I seek, more valuable than gold
Stripes I’ll wear, reproach I’ll bear, to fit into His mold

To know Christ in a greater way, the cross awaits for me
No, not the one where Jesus died, but where my end must be
For death must work within each one who finds the path He tread
If life is to go forth to those who’d rather have us dead

The world will hate, the world will fight, with venom from beneath
Stand for the truth, receive their slap, then turn the other cheek
For Saul may stand in front of you with rage from God knows where
But more than words, your life will speak, if all their hate you bear

“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.” (Matthew 10:16)
