Poem

Ebb and Flow

Michael Beck

Look upon the sun kissed trees, that flicker in the breeze
Hear the birds that now sing sweet hidden in their leaves
Savor what you have today, tomorrow will come fast
Seasons change, things rearrange, nothing ever lasts

Look upon the battered trees, that to the storm winds bend
Hear the awful thunder clap, through night without an end
But look! the sun is coming up, the clouds have gone away
The night was long, the storm was strong, but sudden breaks the day

Blink and both the good and bad, you thought were set in stone
Are now not there before your eyes, all life is but for loan
A little while into your grasp all earth is bound to come
But then it must be given back, like rivers on the run

So look upon this world of change, where nothing stays the same
And in each day rejoice in Him, who always will remain
Cleave to His side and hold on fast, His hand do not let go
He’ll see you through, He’ll be with you, in all life’s ebb and flow
