Poem

At Death’s Door

Michael Beck

Tell me what’s important
When death beats at your door
The things your life was spent on
Were they worth living for?

As past goes flashing by you
Would you do different now?
If you survive this moment
Will you fulfill a vow?

To live less for your pleasure
To live more for the One
Who gave this life unto you
From whom you chose to run

Why when this life is over
Would you go live with God
If life was fine without Him
While you walked on this sod?

Life on this earth is special
A gift from God above
But such a gift is wasted
When Maker has been snubbed

For what will it have mattered
Though you had gained each goal
If when this life is over
You forfeited your soul?

Begin this very moment
To look beyond what’s here
It may soon be behind you
With all you held most dear

Consider what is missing
The thing that matters most
A destiny eternal
In home where God is host

Such life must start before death
You can’t afford to wait
Say yes to gracious invite
Before it is too late
