Poem

Ashamed

Michael Beck

When I shall stand before You, so wanting my reward
May I not hear this sentence, from disappointed Lord:
“Child, you are My beloved, I’ve known you as My son
I’ve watched your earthly journey and now what’s done is done
You spent all that I gave you, but little do I see
You laid up earthly treasures, but were not rich toward Me
You ran without permission, you went but were not sent
You spoke a mile a minute, but did not make a dent
Why were you not more prayerful? You said you would be led
But often you forgot Me, while plowing straight ahead
And now you stand before Me, your works put to the test
A fire now devours, so much you once thought best
Be gone wood, hay and stubble, all that not God ordained
Draw near My son, I love you, although you are ashamed.”

“And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.” (1 John 2:28)
