You Don’t Know What You’ve Been Missing!

Michael Beck

“O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” (Psalm 34:8)

When David sinned against God and man, he mourned the loss of God’s presence. He begged for his Lord’s return: “Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me” (Ps. 51:11). This man after God’s own heart had tasted and seen the goodness of God in his life. He declared: “… In thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Ps. 16:11). He praised the Lord continually because he found nothing in life better than his experience with God. “Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee” (Ps. 63:3).

Many profess to know God without ever really experiencing His actual presence and power in their being. They mistake their religiosity, or so-called spirituality, with a genuine partaking of God. Before the Lord enters our life, through the new birth, we have no real idea what an experience with God is.

You can’t miss something you’ve never known. You can’t mourn the loss of a person who has never been there in the first place. By sending His Son into the world, God offers all men the opportunity to “taste and see” that He is good. He wants each of us to know Him intimately. He is the Fountain of Living Waters and the Bread of Life. His intention is not that we give Him lip service, or assent intellectually to His existence. He wants us to experience Him deeply and fully every day of our lives for the rest of eternity. He is willing for you to have more than religion. He wants you to know what you’ve been missing.
