Wrapped Up in God

Michael Beck

“And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.” (Mark 4:19)

We are saved by receiving the Word of God. But the seed of God’s Word is meant to grow and bring forth much fruit in our life. We can either be fruitful in our knowledge of Christ or “barren and unfruitful.” (2 Pet. 1:8) If the enemy of our soul can’t keep us from being wayside ground he’ll be happy for us to be stony or thorny ground. Stony ground speaks of a heart that failed to get rooted in Christ. Thorny ground speaks of a divided and distracted heart that fails the purpose of God for its life. How does this happen?

Except we’re sober and vigilant we can get wrapped up and consumed by things God would have us steer clear of. “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.” (2 Timothy 2:4) God would plant us by streams of living water where we bring forth fruit specific to the season we’re in. Certain situations are ideal for us to grow in a specific fruit of the Spirit. There we can gain deeper knowledge of Christ and His word, but only if that is the chief goal of our life.

Beware of “little foxes” that ruin the fruit God would bring forth in your heart and life. Get wrapped up in one thing and one thing only – what God is wanting to do to enlarge your heart in Him.
