Where Change Starts

Michael Beck

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15)

In times of societal upheaval, men look for political messiahs. But our salvation will not be corporate and political – it must be personal and spiritual. Jesus was, is, and will be the one and only Messiah this world needs.

When in trouble, our first thought is, “What should we do?” When men look for salvation, “saviors” appear. But they are false saviors who cannot save us. They only promise temporal deliverance, and we need much more than the best men can provide.

What each of us needs more than a better world surrounding us, is a better world within us. We need saving from ourselves. We are our own worst enemy. The way we react to evil is evil. Only Jesus can save us from our self-righteousness; our vindictiveness; our lashing out or closing up in pain and anger.

The world is a mess because it is a conglomeration of messed up people. No one but Jesus can fix the problem. One day He will return to remedy society as a whole; but right now He is miraculously rescuing every broken individual who is humble enough to ask for His help. Yes, the world around us needs to change – but real change starts when Christ enters the world inside us.
