When We Still Have God

Michael Beck

“For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee: but I will correct thee in measure, and will not leave thee altogether unpunished.” (Jeremiah 30:11)

The Father deals with His children mercifully and wisely. All that He does proceeds from His goodness that endures continually. He promises good to us when we walk with Him. When we go our own way without Him we get ourselves into a heap of trouble.

But God remains good and faithful. Even if we have denied Him; He cannot deny Himself. He is very gracious and merciful in His willingness to help us when we’ve gotten ourselves into a mess. This does not however mean that He removes every repercussion of our actions. Having to deal with consequences for the choices we’ve made is part of the way God teaches us to make wiser decisions in the future. The Lord is the wise restorer of our soul, not a foolish enabler.

God is good, ALL the time. Thank Him for His goodness which leads us to repentance. If you have departed from Him, return – and He will return to you. If you are back with Him, He is back with you, even in the midst of self-inflicted trouble. Despite whatever else you may have lost, rejoice! You still have Him. Now, to listen better!
