When to Run

Michael Beck

“Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.” (Proverbs 19:2)

God has good things in store for those who wait on Him. Too often we run when we haven’t been sent; we declare when we haven’t yet heard. In our haste to do or know something we move according to our own understanding rather than in the knowledge God would give us.

Waiting on the Lord is an art that every child of God must learn. Our natural tendency is to resolve things quickly. We don’t like suspense. Uncertainty unnerves us. When the fog is not clearing fast enough, and the way forward has not been made plain to us, we can rush to settle the matter without giving God sufficient time to show us His way. We arrive at conclusions that He has not brought us to.

Better to be with God in the dark than without God in a “light” of your own making. Learn to wait on the Lord until His light arises in your darkness. Take your time. Give God time. Trust that He will lead you, and in His light you will see light. Then, you can run!
