“Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:128)
We do well to give God the last word on any matter. When it came to the fate of Nineveh, Jonah didn’t like God’s verdict. Likewise, when it came to the gourd that protected him from the oppressive heat. Jonah was obviously one who could get hot under the collar when things were not going his way. And the bigger problem was that he justified his anger. “… And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.” (Jonah 4:9)
The day is coming when God will be justified in His sayings, and will overcome when He is judged (Rom. 3:4). Man’s opinions will not matter in that day. Every person who believed or spoke anything contrary to the Word of God will be shown to be a liar.
Perhaps in this day we find ourselves irked by something the Bible clearly states. We wish this or that verse or doctrine was not in scripture. We would add to or subtract from His revelation. Maybe we find fault with Him for something He is permitting in our life. Like Jonah, we run from a God whose person and judgments offend us. We may run, but we can’t hide.
As surely as Jonah had to face the God who IS rather than the God he wished was, we will all one day have to face the true and living God. We will discover then that He was right in everything He ever did or said. He is right now. We don’t do well to be angry with Him. He is who He is, whether we like it or not.
