What Really Matters

Michael Beck

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.” (Colossians 3:2-4)

Worldly sorrow bemoans earthly things lost. But God would give us eyes to see how wonderfully He is able to redeem all that has happened in our life. The good He brings out of evil is the deep gain of Christlike character. They meant it for evil, but God meant it for good. Whatever has been taken from us can’t compare to what God would give us if we would let Him work it together for His good.

Let us not have an eye only for our life in this world. What does it profit us if we gain the whole world but lose our soul? Having this or that doesn’t really matter. Having the mind and heart of God as seen in His Son is a treasure that nothing in this world can compare to. What things were once gain to you count loss to know Jesus, even in the fellowship of His sufferings. Value all that brings you into a greater camaraderie with Him. He is your life. To know Him is life eternal.
