What Friends of God Do

Michael Beck

“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 15:14)

God called Abraham His friend. (2 Chron. 20:7; Isa. 41:8; Jas. 2:23) Abraham left his homeland, not knowing where he would end up. (Heb. 11:8) He left by faith because He heard God’s “Go!” Peter had the confidence to get out of the boat because his Lord said, “Come!” (Mt. 14:29) “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom. 10:17)

Would you be greatly used by the Lord? Don’t expect to hear from God in big things if you’re not listening to Him in seemingly small things. Learn to obey Him, even in what appears inconsequential. (Mk. 4:24) Hear His still, small voice in your heart of hearts. Do what He wants you to do in secret, apart from the eyes of men. Yes, hear His: “Go;” but also hear His: “Stop!”

Be more than God’s servant, be His friend.
