What Are You Waiting For?

Michael Beck

“And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.” (Psalm 39:7)

Life began in a waiting room called the womb. Little did we know what was awaiting us upon entrance into this world. As we grew, we discovered that for so many things we had to wait; and then one by one, this thing and that thing finally arrived, but our days of waiting did not cease.

Life is filled with a thousand destinations, big and small; some we reach, others we don’t. But whether for a long or short time, all must be waited for. Waiting rooms can be miserable, cramped, uncomfortable places. We cry inside, “How long is this going to take!” It definitely helps if you’re waiting with one you love; holding hands, talking, resting your head on your beloved’s shoulder.

Are you in one of those waiting rooms of life right now? Draw near to God. Enjoy His company. Get lost in the joy of His presence. Before you know it, the wait will be over; and then, you might wish you were back in the waiting room, with the one who was your true Destination all along.
