“It is time for thee, LORD, to work: for they have made void thy law. Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:126-128)
Do we want God to work in our life? He works through our obedience. Our disobedience only hinders His working. As long as we are handling any matter, God will step aside and let us eat the fruit of our own way. He will wait until our labors have come up empty.
We cannot make the crooked straight. We cannot make the mountains low or the rough ways smooth. When do we give up trying to do what only God could do in the first place? God does not want us to despair that things can change; He only wants us to cease from our own works and trust Him to work better than we ever could.
God calls us to cooperate with Him. Jesus did nothing of Himself. All was done in tandem with the Father. The devil and men tempted Him to move in His own power to save Himself. He had a huge mission to fulfill, but the Son refused to get ahead of the Father in reaching it. He understood that the Lord makes all things beautiful in His time, not ours.
Our one responsibility is to pay close heed to our God. If our enemies are to be scattered, He must arise. Our labors toward anything are in vain unless the Lord is the builder. When multitudes are making void His law, God is looking for a people who love His commands and let Him go to work, both through them and apart from them.
