Valiant for the Truth

Michael Beck

“And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:3)

“Controlling the narrative” involves the manipulation of information to further a given end. Information that will serve that end is disseminated; information that won’t is suppressed. Those with an agenda have little regard for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. The end justifies the means. People are puppets. Their strings can be pulled this way or that. What will stir them up? What do we want them to think or feel? How do we want them to act? We feed them the information that is custom tailored to our purposes.

God spoke in Isaiah’s day that “truth is fallen in the street” (Isa. 59:14) So also in this day. Why? Because men have fashioned themselves to be gods. They believe they know what is best for society. They are the rulers of the world who must not only control the narrative, but must control the unruly masses. Fear underlies falsehood. What’s a little lie if it’s for the greater good? But in the end, the hoax is exposed, and the hoodwinked don’t appreciate it. Trust is lost because men lie.

In this day, when justified lying has reached epidemic proportions, there is a great need for people who are “valiant for the truth,” and hate lying. God told Jeremiah why people lied? They didn’t know Him. They thought they knew better than He did. They feared for their world, but did not fear the One who made the world and in whose hands it can alone be preserved.

Man’s agenda, furthered by man’s devices, will end up on the junk heap of history. And according to God’s word, (which cannot lie,) all liars will end up in the eternal lake of fire. (Rev. 21:8) Get on the right side of history – become one of those rare individuals who are valiant for the truth. Stop trying to control a world you have no business being in control of.
