The Unchanging Rock

Michael Beck

“For I am the LORD, I change not …” (Malachi 3:6)

Because something has always been (or been for as long as we can remember) does not mean it will always be. Good things we have taken for granted can suddenly disappear. Bad things we thought would never leave are suddenly no more.

Things change. What doesn’t change is God. He remains the same: yesterday, today, and forever. We can want to hold on to the good we’re experiencing today; living in fear of its loss tomorrow. Or, we can desperately want rid of the pain and trouble of today, despairing that a different tomorrow will ever arrive. But what does God want us to do? To live in the shadow of His wings each and every day. Whatever the day might hold, He wants us to hold on to Him, living in His peace that passes all understanding and His joy which is our strength.

Life is unstable. We cannot control what a day might bring – whether by way of good or bad. Things don’t always happen BY us – more often, they happen TO us. Don’t fear a life that is out of your control. Fear being out of God’s control. Abide in His love. Trust Him at all times. Find in Him the refuge your heart needs. Let Him be your Rock, your Stability, the one constant in your life that will never change. Life in and with Him will give you a peace and security that life in this world does not afford.
