The Tragedy of Getting Our Own Way

Michael Beck

“The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.” (Proverbs 14:14)

How commonly do we make a decision that we have to do something, when in reality we don’t.

We err in our thinking before we err with our feet. There is a way which seems right to a man but death is waiting for him at the end of it. It is folly to throw off God’s yoke with the attitude, “I gotta do what I gotta do.” Submission to God and prayer in all things is not optional for a blessed life. It is a necessity.

The blessing of God will be upon our life only as we learn to walk in glad obedience to Him. We are not being led of the Spirit when we are being pushed and pulled by other factors. Expect nothing but sorrow when you are compelled by your own strong desires to do what you feel you have to do. There is no other necessity in your life but to live by every word that proceeds from God’s mouth.
