The Test of Silence

Michael Beck

“Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10:38)

Believe when heaven is silent. Job did. “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15) Believe when it appears God is ignoring you. “But he answered her not a word.” (Mt. 15:23) Believe when God would seem to be an unjust judge who cares nothing for you or your cause (Luke 18).

God’s silence is not a no.

Persevere in prayer. Do not faint. No matter how things look. No matter how impossible the situation. Only stop when and if God tells you to stop. Paul prayed three times for the thorn in his flesh to depart. He was persistent. He diligently sought God as he should have. He stopped only when he heard God speak, “My grace is sufficient for you.” He would have kept praying had he not heard this word. Jesus prayed three times in the Garden, then He stopped, declaring, “It is enough.”

Petition in faith. Stop only by faith. Whatever is not of faith is sin. Without a word from the Lord do not give up believing for your miracle. “… He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” (Heb. 11:6)
