“With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early” (Isaiah 26:9)
The day can batter us. So many events we face can emotionally upset us. It is impossible to live in this world without becoming angry. But if we will seek God in a timely manner we can be angry without sinning.
The key is to seek God “early.” We have a limited time frame in which the Lord calls us to seek His face and get His help to deal with a situation His way. When we don’t do this, our anger turns into wrath. Temptation becomes sin. Now we go forward with our mind clouded and our heart poisoned. An ungodly attitude has formed and from a bitter fountain bitter words will flow.
The Lord is so aware of our need for His timely ministry that He tells us not to let the sun go down on wrath. Wounds need His balm as soon as possible lest they infect. Blows to our spirit need the application of His healing stripes. God’s refuge must be sought. His counsel must be received. His light must dispel any potential darkness from enveloping our heart.
Praying in the morning will not exempt us from trouble through the day. Every day will have its share of upsetting events. “Sufficient for the day is the evil thereof.” Yes, we need to pray when we arise to face the new day. But oftentimes it is even more necessary to pray before we call it a night.
