The Secret to a Happy Ending

Michael Beck

“He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth in the LORD, happy is he.” (Proverbs 16:20)

There is a right way of going about things … and then there is a wrong way. The right way has great hope of a godly resolution and a blessed end. The wrong way seems right in our eyes to begin with, but it never has a good end.

We walk in the right way when we let God order our steps; when we pray and wait on Him; when we show Him our trouble and ask Him for the wisdom to deal with the situation. The right way is always full of patience and longsuffering. The wrong way is born of impatience and anger and disgust.

When we choose the wrong way we move in our own lifted up spirit to rectify a matter. No matter what we do it is done in haste. It is more full of us than God. In the end, we may justify our actions, but deep down there is that nagging feeling that God was not in all our thoughts.

How happy we are when we see the fruit of our trust in the Lord! How satisfying it is when we have wisely handled a matter and found a good, godly resolve! Walk slowly and softly before the Lord. Find His right way forward. Fear to go to battle without Him.
