The Rock Which Steadies Us

Michael Beck

“From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” (Psalm 61:2)

Don’t be afraid of the sudden or mysterious rise of any emotion. We are not called to be emotionless. We are called to take all we feel to God. When we don’t, our emotions can lead us astray. Present both your body and your heart to God. Our Lord waits for us to draw near to Him, so He can draw near to us. Pour out your heart before Him, and then patiently wait on Him to respond. Give Him the opportunity to comfort and counsel you.

In seasons of change and in seasons where nothing is changing draw near to His unfailing springs. “My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever … It is good for me to draw near to God” (Psalm 73:26,28) When your flesh and your heart fail you, discover Him as the strength of your heart and your never ending portion. In the assurance of His loving care for you there is a peace that passes all understanding.

Reconnecting with Him often is just what our hearts need the most. Abide in the secret place of the Most High God. Trust in Him and look to Him at all times. Don’t think activity needs to cease around you before you can meet with Him. He is a whisper away, even in the midst of a swirling storm or circus. Lift up your eyes and your heart without delay. Enter the Rock of your Salvation. Begin to recharge.
