The Real You

Michael Beck

“Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.” (Proverbs 20:11)

The words we speak give the world a window into our soul. They reveal who we are. They leave a good or bad impression. Our actions also speak, often louder than our words.

Every day we leave a witness to the world around us. When we finally leave this earth the record on earth as well as in heaven will be complete. The time to witness will be over. Our memory will be blessed or our name will rot. (Prov. 10:7)

When the books are opened above, all our deeds and every word we have spoken will be weighed by the just Judge. If our works are found wanting before Him He will not accept the excuse: “Lord, I know that action looked bad, and I know those words sounded bad, but it was not the way I really was.” No, the Lord will take what we did and said to be the exact measure of who we were.

And so it also is on earth. There is not the “real you,” that only you know. There is one you, and that is the person you reveal yourself to be every day by your words and actions.

What witness are you leaving – to heaven and to earth?
