The Mountain Before Us

Michael Beck

“It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet, and setteth me upon my high places.” (Psalm 18:32,33)

The greatest challenges we face are spiritual. God has “mountains” for us to climb that are not seen with the eyes. Unless we carefully heed His instruction, we can easily “go flying” off the mountain into a place of wounding or worse beneath us. At no time should we operate in our own mind, haste, or spirit; but in times of stress we are all the more tempted to do just that. For this reason, scripture admonishes us to pray when we are afflicted. (James 5:13)

Asking God to remove the affliction from us is not necessarily the right way to pray. Better to ask Him to help you walk through it, hearing His voice each step of the way. He will gird you with the strength to persevere. He will give you hind’s feet for the most treacherous spots.

Don’t be afraid of any mountain. Some mountains are meant to be removed and cast into the sea; others are meant to be climbed.
