The Miracle of Patience

Michael Beck

“Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness” (Colossians 1:11)

There are things which we are not to know or experience simply because it is not time to do so. Jesus said to His faithless brethren, “… My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.” (John 7:8)

Can we accept God’s “not yet”? Can we accept it when we feel we are “behind schedule” in reaching a longed for goal? Can we accept it when the night seems never-ending? Can we accept it when our day of vindication is nowhere in sight?

None of us naturally likes to wait. This is why patience must be supplied by God’s own “glorious power.” He must strengthen so that His best will unfold to us in His time.

Our haste ultimately sets us further back from every desire of our heart. We can afford to wait. All good things will come to us if we do.
