The Final Word

Michael Beck

“Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment” (Exodus 23:2)

Don’t ever let your basis of belief hinge on what anyone else believes. Don’t be swayed by the question: “Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?” (John 7:48) It doesn’t matter who has believed something; whether your father or mother, your grandfather, your great-grandfather, or a whole line of great church figures and sterling examples of the faith from years gone by. All that matters is this: is it 100% biblical?

God forbid we read scripture with a view to fitting it into our theological tradition. Every belief we espouse must be able to withstand the most rigorous testing in light of God’s complete revelation in scripture. In the day when God will find many liars because they added to or took away from His Word, you will not find refuge in the supposed orthodoxy or sanctity of another. Do not put your trust in even the best of men who are fallible; put your trust in the infallible word of God which will stand forever. Let Him alone give you the final word.
