The Comfort of His Love

Michael Beck

“And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

God is so very good to see the deepest yearnings of our heart and beautifully provide for us. He made Adam a “help meet.” He answered the cry of Isaac’s heart by finding Rebekah for him: “And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.” (Gen. 24:67)

There is such great comfort in loving and being loved. Thank God for those He has brought into your life to be a tangible expression of His own care. But even the best of human friends and lovers cannot quench our thirst to love and be loved. Christ Himself must be our chief confidante and dearest companion, in whose fellowship we find the greatest consolation and comfort of love.

Live in peace and joy with those God has joined to you; but know that they are not your eternal Refuge. Dwell in the secret place of the Most High God. Cleave to Him. He will touch you more deeply than any can. You will find in Him a love that transcends all others. You will never be alone.
