“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” (Isaiah 12:2,3)
Trusting in God brings us into close connection with Him. In our weakness, He becomes our strength. In our sorrow, He becomes our song. In our day of distress, He becomes our hope of salvation.
To trust in God is to rely upon Him moment by moment, looking toward Him for the spiritual sustenance we need to uphold us. How blessed it is to be made so dependent on God! No longer are we trusting in ourselves, or anyone else – our eye is single, our expectation is from Him.
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (Psalm 62:5-8)
The beautiful benefit of trusting in God is a life full of intimate experience with Him. Each day we get to joyfully “draw water out of the wells of salvation.” We hear His voice. We see His hand. We feel His comfort. This is the blessed life He wants His people to know. “O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him” (Ps. 34:8).
Why live far from the living God, when He is willing to be the friend that sticks closer than a brother, and the brother born for adversity? He is willing to share His life with you, if you are willing to share your life with Him. Living far from Him may seem like “freedom,” but it is a recipe for disaster.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Open your life for His entrance. Trust in Him for all you have need of today and everyday.
“For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.” (Psalm 73:27,28)
