The All-Seeing God

Michael Beck

“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.” (Proverbs 15:3)

God knows it all; He sees it all. His eyes are upon the most insignificant sparrow in the most far-flung forest in the world. Nothing escapes His notice. He is aware of what is forming in the deepest recesses of our being. Before a word is in our mouth, or we have taken our first step down a path, He has seen the plans taking shape in our heart. The Lord knows where we are cooperating with Him and where we are off on our own. His heart is full of joy when He sees faithfulness to Him in the secret places; and He is grieved when He sees rebellion brewing.

The righteous are comforted to know that God beholds the good; the wicked are discomforted to think He sees the evil. But this is the amazing truth that scripture makes clear over and over: God knows every detail about every creature He has made. “Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.” (Hebrews 4:13)

What does it matter what people think based upon their limited knowledge? They judge by the seeing of their eyes. Are their eyes in every place? Do they see the good and the evil that is done in secret? No. They judge after the outward appearance. They don’t see as fully and as deeply as God sees.

Walk before God. Live for His approval. Bring Him joy by your hidden faithfulness. Love His eyes upon you. Soon you will see Him who now sees you. A reward awaits the faithfully obedient.
