“The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” (Proverbs 14:11,12)
Thank God David encountered wise counsel when he arose in the heat of his own spirit to deal with a disrespectful fool. Anger is an accelerant. It gets us going in the wrong direction. Scripture warns: “Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools” (Eccl. 7:9)
David knew the power of anger, and so he reminded himself to “be angry, and sin not” (Ps. 4:4). The sun shouldn’t go down on our anger. When anger is allowed to incubate and fester it breaks forth into unwise and destructive decisions. We not only hurt others, but we hurt ourselves.
Abigail told David he would live to regret the outworking of his anger. He took her advice and calmed down. The way that has seemed right to many a man has resulted in great loss.
Beware of justifying your angry actions. Don’t be a fool. Don’t let anger rest in your bosom. Evict it before it burns down your home.
