Still in Control

Michael Beck

“Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.” (Psalm 76:10)

Should we be afraid of an evil time to come? God ultimately is in control. He uses the wrath of man to praise Him. He is glorified in His people in the hottest of fires. Their light shines brightest in the darkest of days.

The devil is always on God’s leash. Job suffered at the hands of the wicked one and wicked men he could use. But even when the hedge is down, God speaks to the proud waves: “Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further” (Job 38:11).

The only thing that need concern us is that we are right in the eyes of God. His eyes are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their cries. If we have made Him our Refuge, He will be with us in trouble.

Do we know what trouble may be around the corner? Storm clouds on the horizon can strike fear in our hearts. “What if” is a question that can torment us. We don’t need to assure ourselves that nothing bad can or will ever happen to us. Jesus said we would have tribulation in this world; but in the midst of it all, He would give us His peace.

The peace of Christ is found not because of the absence of trouble; but because of the presence of God in our life. It is found in the knowledge that nothing shall separate us from God’s love. And it is found in knowing that God is ultimately in control, working all things together for His glory in the lives of His own. Rest knowing that in the very worst of days, God is still on His throne.
