“He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.” (Isaiah 53:7)
How regally silent God’s creation is. In the face of men’s rejection and hatred, the glory of the Creator continues to shine through the works of His hands. Day after day, the witness remains: “I am great and greatly to be praised.”
And then to an ungrateful creation a gracious Creator comes. He takes on our flesh, and bears in His own body all the rage, all the animosity, all the murderous hatred mankind has stored up for the God they blame. And He silently, patiently bears the blame.
There is no sky, no mountain, no ocean, that has more beauty, more grandeur than the silent witness of Christ.
