Selective Investigation

Michael Beck

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18)

The god of this world would show us many things. He would take the Son of God up into a high mountain and show Him all the glory of the kingdoms of the world in a flash. He loves to whet our curiosity with a little “bait” hoping to lure us in for a closer look. The lust of the eyes, which is of the world, and not of the Father, would have us traversing the planet with an insatiable yearning to see what is “out there.”

But there is one investigation that the evil god of this world will never prompt us toward. He will never interest us in knowing our Creator. He would rather we worship a dog, a cat, a bug, or ourselves. Any part of creation can remain an endless source of fascination to us, but the Creator, who is there to be intimately known by all who would seek Him, is an object of disinterest.

How incredible is it that what “may be known of God” is so completely disregarded? It is as though men believe that they can eliminate the truth simply by paying no attention to it. But God is not going away. No, He will return, and every eye will see Him, and those who refused to know Him will bitterly mourn their loss.

Do not be a fool who thinks you are wise. You may know many things; but if you don’t know the God who created them all, you know nothing. Get to know Him – before it’s too late.
