Refusing the Spirit of Antichrist

Michael Beck

“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:14)

The god and spirit of this world is antichrist. The world will never understand the way of Christ. His approach to life does not sit well with the natural man. Jesus is too passive. Who in their right mind would be willing to let people walk all over you? Turn the other cheek? Go the second mile? Bless those who curse you? You’ve got to be kidding.

The opposition of the world will grow even more fierce in these last days when “men shall be lovers of their own selves.” Those who espouse walking as Christ walked will be deemed dangerous people who tolerate injustice. Men will be “despisers of those that are good.” (2 Tim. 3:3) The mutual antagonism between those of the light and those of the darkness will be stark.

“An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.” (Prov. 29:27)

This is a dangerous day for the saint to live in – not because of persecution, but because of apostasy from the Spirit of Christ. Beware of the subtle seduction of the spirit of the world. The god of this world savors the things that be of men rather than the things that be of God. He promises us greater intimacy and kinship with a suffering world around us. He also wants us to despise the cross. Tell him to get behind you.
