Reciprocal Love

Michael Beck

“We love him, because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

What kind of relationship with God do we want? We are told He loves us and He wants to be loved.

What kind of relationship do we want from others? Do we want a relationship with others where they will “do things for us” and not “want things from us?”

God demonstrates His love for us in His gracious giving. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) But why has He given so much to us? “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” (1 John 4:9) God has loved us so we might love Him. He has given so richly to us so we might give ourselves to Him.

Are you the Lord’s beloved? Has He loved you so well? Don’t resent the fact that He now wants something from you. Give Him what He so richly deserves. Don’t have a one-sided relationship with the great Lover of your soul.
