Our Heart Cannot Be Hid

Michael Beck

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” (Ephesians 4:29)

It is very difficult to hide what is in your heart. A corrupt tree brings forth corrupt fruit. Christ is in us to correct and change our attitude toward all things. The conviction of His Spirit is meant to send us to His feet in order to learn of Him. Justifying ourselves in the slightest degree will never work. Nothing that happens outside of us is an excuse for unrighteousness on our part. Where sin abounds, grace can much more abound. There may be temptations in us to envy, to fear, to hate, but God gives more grace.

We are not to fail of the grace of God, lest a bitter root form in our heart. Be assured, corrupt words will flow out of a corrupt fountain. Even when we manage to keep our mouths closed, our actions will communicate our attitude. We cannot afford to let our heart be untended. The damage that results from our failure to keep our heart with all diligence will not be contained to ourselves. All those around us will either benefit or suffer by what goes on within us.

There is constructive and destructive communication. Let the world around you be a “construction zone.” Minister grace, not grief.
