Our Daily Bread

Michael Beck

“Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.” (Psalm 119:92)

Scripture contains the fairest, sweetest, richest pastures for us to lie down and feed in. But such precious fare often goes untouched. What could have sustained us remains buried in the pages of a book instead of written on the tablets of our hearts.

Life-giving sustenance belongs to those who own Jesus as their Shepherd in life. Only those walking near to the Shepherd do not want. How precious does His Word become to us in times when our soul is tempted and troubled. Our Good Shepherd knows exactly what we need to hear. He spreads a table before us in the presence of all that would oppose our soul’s peace and prosperity.

Oh the benefit of knowing and walking with the Author of the Book! He knows us and our situation perfectly. And He knows the perfect spot for our soul to rest while we “chew” on the word He has quickened to us.

Walk with the Shepherd daily, and He will lead you into all the glory and beauty of His magnificent Word. Whatever else is missing from your life, you will never lack the comfort and encouragement that is inside God’s Book. It will not merely sit on your bookshelf, it will dwell in you richly.
