“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” (Proverbs 27:6)
Every so often, God sends someone our way who has our number. They may not even know they’re doing it, but they’re hitting the nail on the head, calling out some place of disobedience in our life. They do so simply because they are a bright, shining sold out witness for Christ, joyfully living out the life we should be living and rejoicing in the benefits of obedience.
Be very grateful for such friends who challenge and elevate us to love our God in deed and in truth. At first, their light that reproves our darkness might be painful to bear. And though we are tempted to escape their presence, we cannot escape their witness to the truth. In the end, they are those we bless God for. “He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.” (Prov. 28:23)
Our greatest witness is the life of obedience we live before God. Although it is first done in secret, in the presence of God alone, it eventually is shouted from the housetops, it gives light to all in the room.
Our best and dearest friends are those God uses to shine His light and bring us closer to Him.
