Looking for More

Michael Beck

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” (Psalm 62:5)

Disappointment is a fact of life. We expect one thing, but get another. We start off with high hopes, only to be let down. We think: “This is it!” only to have to think again. We wanted more, but got less.

The “more” we want can only be found in God. To look anywhere else but Him is to find disappointment. But when He “comes through” for us it is not in the exact way we supposed – it is above and beyond all we have asked for or thought of.

God’s best for us is always better than our best for us. We know what we want; He knows what we need. We wanted to be loved; He taught us to love even when we’re not being loved. We wanted things to be easy; He gave us the strength to endure when things were tough. We wanted to be happy in having an abundance of good things; He showed us how to have joy when we had to go without.

There are times we need to change our prayer – asking for the “more” that God always has in store for those who look to Him. None who wait on Him will ever be disappointed.
