“And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.” (Jude 1:6)
Lucifer is the original rebel, who would not be who God had made him to be. He, and the angels who followed him, refused to keep their “first estate.” They declared: “We WILL be gods!” But they became devils, not gods. Ever since that day, they have championed the cause of “freedom” in the earth, seducing man to believe he also could break free of God’s assigned station and be other than God made him. “Ye shall be as gods” (Gen. 3:5).
In these last days, man’s idolatrous relationship with the god of “freedom” is reaching extraordinary proportions. When the Lord is not our sovereign Head, and we are not submitted to His rule in our life, we exalt the idea of choice. In days past, man’s quest to be his own god revolved around his right to think and act in the way of his own choosing. The new frontier of freedom transcends thinking and doing, human beings are now buying into the Luciferic lie that they can BE whoever they want to be.
But even as God gives humankind no such right to pervert or overthrow His law when it comes to right thinking and acting, He gives us no permission to choose who we are. When we get saved, we don’t get to choose our identity. God has already, before we were born; yes, even before the foundation of the world, determined our identity. We are called to be like His Son. He does not permit anyone to change that set identity. We cannot say, “But I identify more with Buddha, or Mohammed, or Confucius.” The role we are to fill, the part we are to play, the person we are to become, is not according to our choosing, it is entirely set by the Sovereign Ruler of the Universe. To go against God’s choice is to defy Him in the same way devils do.
Lucifer and his cohorts roam the earth today, spreading their lies and fomenting rebellion against heaven’s rule. They have seduced the world to believe that “freedom” to think, and act, and be whatever they choose is a God-given right. It is no such thing. The Lord God is King. We are to pray that His kingdom would come and His will would be done in our life. To worship at the altar of “freedom” is to worship a strange god whose aim is not to bring us happiness, but eternal sorrow.
Bow before the one, true God. Serve Him only. Let Him dictate what you think, what you do, and who you are. He is not the god of bondage; but the true God of freedom. Find the freedom that is in Him – to BE all He has made you to be. Let the choice be His.
