Knowing God Will Come Through

Michael Beck

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.” (Psalm 9:9,10)

God wants us to trust in Him. A big part of trusting in Him involves entrusting ourselves and all our concerns into the hands of one we know to be a good God. Corrie Ten Boom succinctly wrote: “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” The prophet Nahum assured a trusting people that they had a good God who recognized their trust in Him. “The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him” (Nahum 1:7).

Beyond believing for something specific, God wants us to trust Him for a resolution that will far exceed all we can ask or think (Eph. 3:20). When we think about what could happen in the future, we can become anxious. Paul exhorted Timothy not to walk in a spirit of fear. He told his son in the faith that he was facing the future with confidence. Why? Because he knew who he believed in, and he was “persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him” (2 Tim. 1:12).

We can have faith that some mountain WILL be removed. But when we trust God with a perplexing future that contains so many variables, we are declaring that we know Him well enough to have a peace that passes our understanding. We don’t need to know exactly what He will do, but we know He will not disappoint us. Though our heart is sorrowful now, we will rejoice in time to come. Our God will come through for us. We know in whom we have believed.
