Jesus to the Rescue

Michael Beck

“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15,16)

God could have washed His hands of us. He could have seen the mess we were in and remained in heaven. But He didn’t keep His distance. He didn’t run from our trouble, He ran to it. He made our problem His problem. He entered our plight. He let Himself feel all we feel.

We can be assured that the God who became Man does not look down on us because we are sorely tempted and tried and often on the brink of sin. He came close, but He never gave in. He was on the front lines of life in this world. He was in the heat of every battle we face. He is not estranged from the “feeling of our infirmities.”

God chose to know our weaknesses, so we might know His strength. He stood, so we can stand also. He drew near to us in our weakness, so we might draw near to Him for His strength. Don’t keep your distance from such a gracious God. Run to Him for all the help you need and all He came close to give you!
