Jesus, My Shield

Michael Beck

“But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.” (Psalm 3:3)

We are all terribly vulnerable. Every day is an opportunity to be bumped and bruised. But our bodies heal far faster than our spirits.

Truth be told, the wounds in our spirits cannot and do not heal without being tended to by the Spirit of Christ. Time does not heal all wounds, only Jesus does. Time may actually increase the “infection” in an untreated wound. Without the ministry of the Great Physician we become more bitter, more angry, and sicker by the day.

We are quite naive to think we can be shielded from pain and hurt in this life. Jesus is our shield, not from the trouble found in this world, but from the damage it can do to our soul. Nothing done to us can harm us more than our own wrong response. Don’t think yourself sufficient to overcome evil. You will be overcome without Jesus, your Shield.
