Jehovah-jireh

Michael Beck

“But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at the last your care of me hath flourished again; wherein ye were also careful, but ye lacked opportunity. Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” (Philippians 4:10,11)

Paul was grateful for the support sent to him by the Philippian church. But he was not depending upon them. As he told them, he had learned how to “suffer need.”

The typical response when we watch our resources dwindle is to look to the “arm of flesh” to help us. But Paul was convinced that his God would supply all his needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Those who depend on men are disappointed by men. They set themselves up for bitterness. Do yourself a favor, look nowhere else for your needs to be met but to God. If He is your Shepherd, you shall not want.
