In the Bosom of the Father

Michael Beck

“No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.” (John 1:18)

The bosom of the Father is the permanent dwelling place of the Son. Whether in heaven, or upon the earth, the experience of Father and Son is one of eternal closeness.

We know those best who we have the closest relationships with. John rested his head upon the bosom of His Lord. This nearness to the heart of Christ was the secret to his profound gospel. As Jesus declared the Father; so John declared Jesus.

The heart longs for intimacy. What is so hard to find in the world of men, can be found in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When God sends us into a lonely wilderness it is always for the purpose of finding Him in a greater way. When human beings are not to be found or draw away, God calls us to draw near to Him, so He might draw near to us. He would be our eternal Refuge. He would cradle us in His everlasting arms. He is the Friend that sticks closer than any other, the brother born for adversity. He knocks … He waits … all in the hope of getting closer.
