Holy Spirit Eyes

Michael Beck

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith …” (Hebrews 12:2)

Satan has a set of eyes he would give men. His way is to have us obsess over the past or the future. Or, when he wants us to act to have no thought for the future, only the pleasure of the moment. But of all things, the devil would give us an unrelenting focus on ourselves. He would have sit all day before the mirror, whether to love or loathe ourselves. Self-exaltation or self-hatred is all the same to him.

The Holy Spirit does just the opposite: He has us take our eyes off ourselves and focuses us on Jesus. The issue is not: “Who are we?” it is: “Who is Jesus to us?” Our goodness or badness is not the subject of His interest. We have no goodness outside of Christ. And His grace abounds where our sin abounds. He is our hope of goodness and glory. When He is at work in us, we are a masterpiece in the making.

Where are your eyes today – on yourself or on Christ? Submit to the focus the Holy Spirit wants to give you. Resist the devil’s focus, and he will flee.
