Holding to the Word

Michael Beck

“But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:8)

God can speak to us in ways other than the written word of God; but nothing He speaks to us will ever be in contradiction to scripture. Those who have received a love of the truth prove all things against God’s Word. “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them” (Isa. 8:20)

The first deception came through a messenger of Satan who contradicted what God had already spoken (Gen. 3:4). Paul warned the Corinthians about “false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ” (2 Cor. 11:13). God forbid we let any man exalt himself in our eyes above the Word that is forever settled in heaven. Only the Word of God is infallible. Men, with their dreams, visions, and revelations, can speak out of their own lifted up mind, or be oracles of devils.

In these last days especially, the world is rife with seducing spirits. John warned: “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). Only as we continue in God’s Word will we know the liberating truth of the gospel and truly be Christ’s disciples (Jn. 8:31,32). We must stand for THE Truth, the WHOLE truth, and NOTHING BUT the truth of God’s Word. It is our only place of safety and protection from imposters and seducers who would lead us astray with their corrupt and twisted version of truth.

Love God’s Word enough to cherish every word of it. Beware of any who would add to or take away from it. Give such diligent heed to it that it will cleanse every unbiblical error from your thinking. “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (Jn. 15:3).
