Heart to Heart

Michael Beck

“Trust in Him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before Him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (Psalm 62:8)

Placing too much focus on a problem tends to make it worse. Dwelling on it, talking about it with others, can increase the cloud cover, making a dark day even darker. On the other hand, pretending that a bad situation does not exist is not the answer either. Denial just drives our emotions deeper under the surface where we barely know how to speak to God or man about what we are going through.

We can be honest about the trials we face. It is no sin to acknowledge our pain or distress. The wider our channel of communication with God, the greater our prospects for a peace that guards our heart and mind from debilitating worry. When the meditation of our heart is acceptable in God’s sight, the words of our mouth will be the same.

At all times, depend upon God. Make Him your Rock, your Refuge, your “go-to” Person. Let Him be your sounding board. He will keep you grounded and sane. And don’t be shy, afraid to let Him know how you feel – let it all “hang out.” He already knows us inside and out, but we let Him know us like no one else when we open up to Him like no one else.

Talk to God, and let Him talk to you. If you’ll be open to whatever He has to say, He will give you wise and good counsel. All those who diligently seek Him are always refreshed after spending time at His feet. No wonder Mary loved that sweet spot.

Have a real heart to heart talk with God. He’s waiting. It will do your heart good.
